Deciduous hedge planting is usually carried out from October to March, (when weather and soil conditions are suitable). Evergreen hedges should be planted in the Autumn or Spring

It is important to prepare the ground in advance and remove all perennial weeds (see the pictures above). In most cases we only need to plant a new hedge once, so it is important to give it the best possible start.

On exposed sites, a fine mesh barrier will help establishment. If rabbits are a problem, a small wire netting mesh fence will be your best defence.
