It is important to prepare the ground in advance and remove all perennial weeds (see the pictures above). In most cases we only need to plant a new hedge once, so it is important to give it the best possible start. On exposed sites, a fine mesh barrier will help establishment. If rabbits are a problem, a small wire netting mesh fence will be your best defence. If you are planning to plant a new hedge start your soil preparation NOW.
